Description

This course enables students to create media art works by exploring new media, emerging technologies such as digital animation, and a variety of traditional art forms such as film, photography, video, and visual arts. Students will acquire communications skills that are transferable beyond the media arts classroom and develop an understanding of responsible practices related to the creative process. Students will develop the skills necessary to create and interpret media art works.

Photography basics   :

The students will  

  • learn the Elements and Principles of design  
  • learn how to use the composition rules in photography 
  • Use their phone or DSLR camera to apply what they learned 
  • create a set of images with a cohesive theme to explain E and P in Photography 
  • explore their own style of photography

Camera Basic 

The students will  

  • learn about the basic information of DSLR Camera 
  • Learn the three important part of camera Iso and aperture and shutter speed
  • explore new knowledge in their photography techniques 
  • create a Portraiture by using new techniques

Stop motion 

The students will  

  • review what animation is  
  • be introduced to different types of animation and its history  
  • apply one design principle to a studio design task  
  • study and create one stop motion animation in a basic level  
  • recognize famous stop motions animation artists and the main reason of their success

Character design 

The students will  

  • study the history of comic books and character design  
  • compare how the human body was portrayed in the ancient cultures  
  • create a character and story board based on their own story line  
  • recognize key works different famous comic books artists and their success

  • learn the history of video art and its difference with movie making 
  • observe a demonstration on how to work with camera 
  • design and create their own functional short video with its story line 
  • Try to edit the video based on the narration and composition of the frames

Purpose      

The primary purpose of assessment is to improve student learning. Assessment relates directly to the expectations for the course.  

A variety of assessments for and as learning are conducted on a regular basis to allow ample opportunities for students to improve and ultimately demonstrate their full range of learning and for the teacher to gather information to provide feedback. Assessment tasks relate to the success criteria set out in lesson plans. Success criteria allow students to see what quality looks like.  

Evaluation is the process of judging the quality of student work in relation to the achievement chart categories and criteria and assigning a percentage grade to represent that quality. Evaluation is based on gathering evidence of student achievement through:

  • Observations 
  • Conversations 

 

Assessment for Learning – we provide feedback and coaching. Assessment FOR Learning is the process of seeking and interpreting evidence for the use of learners and their teachers to decide where the learners are in their learning, where they need to go, and how best to go there.  

Assessment as Learning – we help students monitor progress, set goals, reflect on their learning  

Assessment AS Learning is the process of the explicit fostering of students’ capacity over time to be their own best assessors, but teachers need to start by presenting and modeling external, structured opportunities for students to assess themselves.  

Assessment of Learning – we use assessments to provide evaluative statements about student achievement. Assessment OF Learning is the assessment that becomes public and results in statements of symbols  

(marks/grades/levels of achievement) about how well students are learning. It often contributes to pivotal decisions that will affect students’ future.
