Starting a New School? Tips to overcome the worries

Starting a new school can be overwhelming. And yet exciting at the same time. However, for some it can be more overwhelming than exciting.

Remember that everyone else is in the same boat!

You more than likely aren’t the only one. Remember that anxiety and nerves are very common. Many students will likely share the same feelings as you, so accept the emotions.

Reach out and befriend classmates

School can be a great place to make new friends! The more you get familiar with others and your surroundings the less anxious you’ll start to get around them.

Don’t be to hard on yourself

Remember that at the end of the day it is ok to feel negative emotions. It takes everyone a different time to get used to people. Like mentioned previously learn to embrace every emotion even the ones you view as negative.

Consider counseling

Everyone can benefit from counseling, never be afraid to ask your school for counseling services. Even getting things off your chest and asking for a professional opinion can greatly have a positive impact.

Before the first week:

Organize your school material:

Make a checklist of any necessary school materials, that way there won’t be any unnecessary stress of coming unprepared for a class.

Get familiar with school online systems:

Set up and log in into any accounts, so that you can get a head start on understanding how to use a system.

Fix your sleep schedule.

Gradually start going to bed early, avoid screens, and create a relaxing bedtime routine.

Embrace the school experience, and keep your mind open to new experiences. High School is a once of a lifetime experience! Before you know, you will get used to the routine, and hopefully even enjoy it!
